Get That Rock Sound

Ever wonder how to get that monstrous sounding rock guitar sound? The principles here are known by almost all rock guitarists and still holds true. Have fun in your adventure!

1) Turn your amp (whether tube or solid-state) up loud to produce some degree of power-stage saturation. Key here is to engage the guitar speakers.

2) Guitar effects will be worthless without amp. Playing through a loud tube amp is a first and a must for getting the most impressive tone out of guitar effects. Buy the tube amp first over guitar effects if you have to choose one. Guitar effects are not as important as having a good tube amp. When using guitar effects, remember that the sound of the effect when used through a loud tube amp offers the best sound compared to using the guitar effect on its own.

3) Rock listeners want to hear the real, physical tone of a stressed speaker wrestling with power tubes. Never connect to the mixer directly.

4) Effects sound better when combined optimally with a tube amp than when used directly into the mixer. You can connect effects and amps in many ways. But the default, optimal way of connecting them in the recording studio is to place time-based effects after, rather than before, any heavily overdriven stage. This prevents beats and preserves a clear basic tone.

5) Eq before distortion or saturation sounds different than eq after distortion. Think of all the tone knobs and frequency response curves of gear placed before a distortion pedal as the first equalizer. Think of all tone knobs and response curves between the distortion pedal and saturating power tubes as the second equalizer. Think of all the tone knobs and response curves between the speaker and recording tape as the third equalizer. Shaping your amp tone is controlled by adjusting, one way or another, one of these three effective-equalizers. To study how eq alternates with distortion, use this chain:

EQ->Dist->EQ

The resulting behavior applies to saturating power tubes as well as each individual stage of preamp distortion. Bass boost before saturation causes a dry, rough, crusty breakup tone. Treble boost before saturation causes a liquidy, glassy breakup tone.

6) A powerful way of connecting guitar effects and tube amps is:

Guitar Effects->Tube Amp->Speaker (Isolation) Cabinet-> Guitar Effects

This approach requires a final amp and a full-range monitor speaker.

A good chain is:

Wah->Compression->Distortion->Time-Effects->Loud Tube Amp

A clearer chain is:

Wah->Compression->Distortion->Loud Tube Amp->Time-Effects

So there you go. If all these information are too much for you to handle, divide it up into chunks and take it step by step. Be patient in your journey.

Update Your Data storage with Online Backup Solutions

All online backup solutions offer automated daily backup, offsite secure storage and guaranteed fast recovery.

Most online backup services allow for your data to be continuously backed up as it changes, 24 hours a day, so it's always protected. A historical archive is a feature usually available to clients. The archive allows you to access the most recent copy from a few minutes ago or a copy from weeks ago. The appropriate copy will be available with a few clicks on the web.

Online backup solutions help you to recover from disaster. Your data is automatically stored offsite at a secure data center through state-of-the-art security technology. Offsite storage provides you with disaster recovery with critical data should your office be damaged or destroyed.

Fast recovery from data loss or downtime is an obvious benefit of online backup solutions. Instantly recover your data to the point of failure. For added convenience and speed, most providers supply a unique web interface that allows you to initiate restores from any web browser anywhere.

Online backup solutions can offer all the following services:

PC Data - The online data backup solution for key business documents such as those typically stored in "My Documents" with a daily backup. Recover documents from any location using an internet connection and web browser interface. This will generally be the least expensive option as only important data is saved.

PC System and Data - The online backup solution for data AND system files. Most backup solutions providers will offer a unique "Heal" feature which means if you computer crashes because of operating system error, virus, crashes or lost laptops. You can recover your important data but also the software that runs the computer.

File Server - if you are running a client-server environment, then backup solutions providers will also offer online storage for the data on you servers for example normal 'flat-file' data on a Windows Server, Novell, and Linux "network shares".

Product Specific Backup Solutions - Some solutions providers will offer storage and backup solutions for specific products for example Small Business Server Dedicated backup for your Microsoft Small Business Server 2000 and 2003. They can offer daily scheduled backups of Exchange, SQL and file data. Remote control panel and active monitoring by the backup solutions software will ensure your business is protecting its critical data.

Application Server Complete solution - For servers with in-built protection of Exchange, SQL and file data on Windows, UNIX and Linux servers. Option for real-time replication, long term archiving and on-site disk caching for fast restores. Regardless of your provider, this is likely to be the most expensive yet most complete backup solution to protecting your data.

Tape Backup Solutions

Of course, you can try to take on the task of managing your backup and storage considerations yourself most people who do utilize tape backups. You can backup all your data to tape, and take these tapes home with you at the end of the day. This puts the responsibility on you to manage the tape backups this can be costly: hiring staff to manage the process, buying and paying for the technology to run the solution.

In all online backup solutions are hassle free by comparison. With no tapes to buy, automatic continuous backup available, and no wait recovery, lower your costs and ease your backup headaches with an offsite backup provider.

What You Should Know About DVD camcorders

DVD camcorder allows you to record home movies directly to DVD and play them back on your home DVD player. Nothing compares to the convenience of recording directly to the high-resolution DVD format. Instant access to any scene eliminates wasted time fast-forwarding and rewinding and the durable DVD format saves memories securely in high-resolution.

Seeing as your recording is based on DVD disc and not on tape or tape-based players, the quality of recordings is out standing. The benefit of recording with a DVD camcorder is its flexibility. You can use your camera to record at home, use it as a storage medium, or in the office connected to your PC.

Unlike videotapes, DVD's need no rewinding or fast-forwarding to search for specific scenes. The DVD camcorder's LCD displays a list of the recorded scenes for quick, easy searching. Images recorded onto DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs can also be played on a DVD recorder or DVD player, so you don't have to hook the camcorder up to a TV to watch your recordings.

Anyone who has yet to buy a digital camcorder might be thinking it's a good idea to skip the Mini DV tape format now dominating the space, and jump right to recordable-DVD camcorder. Think of it as a Polaroid camera: you shoot, finalize the disc and pop it out.

DVD camcorders come in two versions, one that uses rewritable DVD-RAM/R discs requiring a DVD player with RAM playback or a PC with a DVD-RAM drive, and the other that uses the more popular DVD-R/RW discs that work with most ordinary DVD players.

Princess Birthday Party Ideas - An Enchanting Birthday

Once upon a time in a kingdom run by the most wonderful king and queen (you), there lived a beautiful princess (your child) who was preparing to celebrate her birthday.

Then one night the princess had a dream and in her dream she wished for an enchanted princess birthday party.

The King and Queen wanted to make the princess's dream come true, so they planned a lovely party just to please their daughter.

With these enchanted princess birthday party ideas, your child's wishes and dreams will come true.

Imagine your little girl all dressed up in her royal princess costume, happily greeting her party guests as they arrive for her special celebration.

Invitations

I suggest the "royal treatment" for your special celebration announcements.

As the royal family, you may wish to send your invitations on parchment paper. When your invitation is ready to deliver, roll up the parchment paper and tie a bright red or purple ribbon around it.

Your royal wording might start off like this.

"Announcing a royal celebration"

"Once upon a time... As a royal subject, your presence is requested by the king and queen of the kingdom (your last name) to attend an enchanted Princess Birthday Party for her highness, princess (your child's first and last name) on the magical occasion of her (how old she will be) birthday."

"This royal celebration will be a princess costume party where all are invited to dress in their princess wardrobe. Our enchanted birthday party will take place on (day and date) and will begin at (time) with our celebration concluding at precisely (end time of your party)."

"The King and Queen request that all royal subjects planning to be in attendance, please RSVP by (day and date)."

"Her royal highness princess (your child's first name) looks forward to your attendance at her princess birthday party which promises to be an enchanting time for all."

"Our party will take place at the castle (families last name) located at (address).

Deliver Your Invitation

Here's a fun idea. Have someone in costume actually hand deliver your invitations. Imagine how surprised and delighted your party guests will be. And they'll know this party is going to be very special. What fun.

Royal Decorations

When decorating, the royal family always uses red, purple, pink, blue and white balloons. You can also find a number of excellent online party supply stores where you'll find all kinds of incredible decorations to brighten up your castle.

You can cover your ceiling in colorful helium balloons, and be sure to decorate your mail box and your front door to help your party guest locate your castle entrance. You might decorate your front door with a colorful balloon archway for your guests to walk under.

Princess Birthday Party Ideas - Games

Pin The Tiara On The Princess

Cut out a picture of a princess from a coloring book, or get a princess poster, then cut out some small paper tiaras that your guests can stick on the picture... Remember to put each child's name on their tiara.

Enchanted Musical Statues

Have your party guests move to the center of the room. Start playing some music related to your theme. Have your guests start moving and dancing around... Then stop the music and everyone has to freeze like a statues. Anyone who moves is out. Keep repeating this until only one person is left.

Royal Message Relay

Have all your guests sit in a circle. Have your birthday child think of a silly royal phrase or sentence. It might be a funny message for the king and queen... Your birthday child whispers the message to the guest on their right. That child whispers the message to the person on their right until the message travels all the way around the circle to the person sitting just to the left of your birthday child. That child then repeats the message out loud... Then the birthday child tells everyone what the original message was... Everyone gets a turn. The more the message gets mixed up, the more fun it is.

Princess Dress Up

Pick up some fun things like tiaras, mirrors, combs, boas, jewelry, long gloves and even high heels for the young ladies to play with.

And don't forget to take lots of still pictures and shoot lots of video.

Princess Birthday Party Ideas - Royal Food And Drink

May I suggest the following elegant finger foods be served.

Royal melon, served with tooth picks

Finger sandwiches

Carrot Sticks

Grapes

Celery sticks filled with peanut butter

Purple, red or pink Jelly Beans

Small crackers with cheese

Cherries

Royal orange slices

Apple slices with caramel dip

Strawberries dipped in chocolate

And for those thirsty moments:

Royal punch with sherbet ice cream and a taste of ginger ale

Sparkling grape or apple drink

Lemonade with strawberries

Princess Birthday Party Idea

We hope your child's enchanted Princess Birthday Party is a big hit and that your child's birthday wishes and dreams do come true.

Panic! At The Disco

For those of you who don't know, Panic At The Disco is a a pop rock/electronica band based out of Las Vegas, Nevada. This band is composed of Brendon Urie and his childhood friend, Spencer Smiths along with their schoolmate, Ryan Ross. The band was formed in Summerlin, Las Vegas, by childhood friends Ryan Ross on guitar and Spencer Smith on drums. When they were thirteen, the two played blink-182 covers in bands of different formations. They used the name of "Summer League.

How was the band discovered?
When they brought in Brent Wilson on bass and Brendon Urie on vocals and guitar, the band came up with the name 'Panic! at the Disco.' The band has stated that the name "Panic! at the Disco" comes from the song "Panic" by The Smiths but a more popular theory is that the name has its origins in the song "Panic" by Name Taken, which has a line Panic At The Disco."

To promote their music, the band contacted Fall Out Boy bassist, Pete Wentz through LiveJournal, and sent him a link to their PureVolume site. Pete was so impressed that he took a trip to Las Vegas to meet the band in person. After seeing them practice in their garage, he asked if they would like sign with his Fueled by Ramen imprint label Decaydance.

Panic At The Disco's Accomplishments
Panic At The Disco released their debut album A Fever You Can't Sweat Out on September 27th 2005, while building up a fan base through PureVolume and MySpace. After being consistent in PureVolume's top 10 signed artists, and reaching number one in MySpace's indie charts, Panic! at the Disco were featured on MTV's Total Request where they premiered their musicvideo for "I Write Sins Not Tragedies." Featuring Lucent Dossier Vaudeville Cirque and an eerie circus wedding theme. That video was featured at #10 on the TRL countdown which won the Video of the Year award at the 2006 MTV Video musicAwards. The single itself, released April 27th 2006, peaked at #7 in the US charts.

The Departure of Brent Wilson!
Unfortunately there were problems going on in the band. They had to let their bassist Brent Wilson go. The band officially announced the departure of Brent Wilson with a message on the band's website on 17 May 2006. Brent has stated that the decision to leave was not his, and that he was fired without warning for monetary reasons, but the rest of the band denies this. Brent is now demanding a cut in royalties, and has threatened he will take his former band to court if it is necessary.

Even though this band has had a little disagreement Panic At The Disco is still a magnificent band to this day. For more information about Panic At The Disco you can visit http://panicathediscolyrics.blogspot.com

Best Sugar Cookie Recipe?

There is nothing like a great sugar cookie recipe. Dont buy the roll of Pillsbury Dough, you can make a superb cookie that will remind you of the days when Grandma made them.

Grandma used to sit by the fire and drink her tea and Grandpa used to sip his coffee made from his French Press, before it was trendy. I loved seeing them sit there enjoying the day. When we walked in the house there were smells coming from the kitchen you just couldnt imagine. The sweet smell of warm sugar cookies invaded your senses. You knew today was going to be a treat.

It was a tradition that we enjoyed every year. The kitchen was filled with flour storms and the counters were sticky from Buttercream frosting. We had tin cookie cutters spread all over the table. I liked the boot best, my sister liked the angel.

Grandma had a special way with those cookies and she handed down the recipe to me. I was to teach my kids how to make these wonderful holiday sweets. It wouldnt be Christmas time without this recipe of Yummy cookies. I am publishing it because I want you to enjoy the best sugar cookie recipe ever.

Grandmas Favorite Sugar Cookie

1 cup white sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
1 cup butter
2 eggs beaten
1 tsp cream of tarter
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
4 cups flour
cup corn oil

Cream the sugars and butter together. Mix the beaten eggs, vanilla and corn oil, in. Add the dry ingredients .Mix all the ingredients well and chill overnight. Bake at 375 F for 8-10 minutes.DO NOT OVERCOOK.

We used to make the funniest colors to decorate the cookies, most of them looked inedible. They tasted heavenly, though. We figured if we made them look gross enough, the adults would leave them alone. We were wrong. Everyone knew they were Grandmas famous sugar cookies from her handed down recipe book. This page was splattered with all sorts of colors. I have that book now. I love making these cookies with my kids.

Grandmas Favorite Frosting (dont forget the food coloring)

2 cups of powdered sugar
cup butter melted
1 T Milk
1 tsp vanilla

Cream sugar, butter and vanilla. Add a small amount of milk (1 to 2 tablespoons). Beat until fluffy. If frosting is too sweet add a little more milk.

Try it this season. Enjoy your family and brew some wonderful tea or coffee and relax. Take the time to make memories with your family or neighbors or friends.

Catalogue & Home Shopping: retail Therapy From Your Favourite Armchair

Pick a lifestyle any lifestyle, go ahead, I won't peek! Without knowing who you are or where you live and without knowing another single fact about you, I'm prepared to wager that for you, there just aren't enough hours in the day.

Like almost everyone, you have too much to do and not enough time to do it in. OK, so I'm not psychic and I've picked on a very popular theme that affects, well... almost everyone.

Between your job commitments, your family, and health and lifestyle commitments when exactly do you find time to go to the shops? Whether it's for groceries, for clothes, for the little luxuries that lift your spirits or for the spirits themselves for that matter.

Most of us divide retail therapy into at least two categories: The mundane essentials and the more pleasurable (indulgent) luxuries.

Mundane essentials like groceries and clothing (usually work or school clothes) take a little more effort to shop for and are difficult to get excited about. Shopping for more pleasurable luxuries on the other hand is never a chore and if you're like me, you'll always find the time.

Fortunately we now live in an age when both mundane and pleasurable shopping can both be done from the comfort of your own armchair.

A loaf of bread, a pair of socks, a blouse, a tie, a carton of milk, a school blazer, a torch, an armchair, a lemon cheesecake, a lemon cheesecake maker for that matter, virtually anything you want or desire can be sought and bought with the click of a mouse.

No queues, no heavy lifting, no concern about closing times, no fear of losing the kids and all with a cup of tea and a biscuit, oh and with your feet up!

This may not sound like something you'd like to do on a weekly basis, after all, isn't half the fun of shopping about touching and feeling and trying things on, but if shopping from home from a catalogue or online frees you up to indulge in some serious and enjoyable retail therapy, then it's got to be worth a look hasn't it?

Catalogue and home shopping companies are becoming more and more creative by the week in their ability to offer excellent choice and value for money, while expanding their product ranges and really focusing their efforts on creating an enviable and alternative shopping experience for you and me, the consumer.

Whether you're shopping for the essentials, for pleasure, a loaf of bread or an entire new wardrobe, catalogue, home shopping and the internet are able to provide a solution, and the outlook couldn't be rosier.

As always, Happy Shopping Copyright (c) 2007 Sam Benton
